Laser cut angle brackets
Simple angle brackets laser cut from 3mm thick 304 stainless steel sheet metal
Angle brackets that have been cut from 3mm stainless steel sheet using a Trumpf 3030 3KW fibre laser cutting machine and nitrogen as the cutting assist gas. Using nitrogen allows us to produce a clean and bright surface with no burn marks on the cut edge of the top surfaces. The angle brackets were designed in Radan software as a 3D model and then development out and “tooled” for laser cutting.
Angle bracket model
The part’s attributes such as material type, material thickness and the shape of the angle bracket were defined within the modelling software. This enable us to unfold the model and calculate the correct blank size to be laser cut without the need to run test samples first. The blank could then have any tooling needed for laser cutting built into the part program such as the lead in point and any tags that might be needed to hold the angle bracket within the sheet while cutting. This enables a laser cutting nest to be built that has all the intelligence needed to either produce whole sheets of the same parts or a mixture or family of parts if needed.

The final “tooled” part is then laid out on a next with all the cutting order and codes need to drive the laser cutting machine. In this image 2 types of angle bracket as shown being cut together to complete the order. Once the angle brackets had been laser cut they simple needed a single bend and were then finished.
